Keyword Search
Text FieldsThese fields specify the values to search for within metadata record keyword fields. This can either be a single word or a phrase. If you enter multiple words in a text field then that phrase must match exactly word for word. Searches are not case sensitive. Fields that are not needed can be left blank. Fields have the following meanings: PlaceThe geographic name of a location covered by a data set. TemporalThe name of a time period covered by a data set. ThemeA common-use word or phrase used to describe the subject of a data set. ButtonsTo the right of each text field are several buttons that assist with the keyword fields. SelectThis button will bring up a new page with a listing of keywords gleaned from the metadata in the CoRIS system. You can then select one of these values. (Select keywords help.) MoreThis button will create an additional field of the same type. For example, clicking the "More" button next to the Place keyword field will create an additional Place keyword field. You can create as many keyword fields as desired. DeleteEach additional field created by using the "More" button will have a "Delete" button next to it. (See the example image below.) Clicking this button will remove the corresponding field. ClearThis button will erase the value in the corresponding field. Keyword values that come from different type fields are ANDed together for the search. For example if you enter "Holocene" for the Temporal field and "Paleobiology" for the theme field, you would only find records that contained both those keywords. Keyword values that come from fields of the same type are ORed together. For example, if you enter "Atlantic Ocean" in one place field and "Pacific Ocean" in a second place field, you would find records that matched either of those keywords. The example shows a search for all data whose Place keywords contain one or more of the phrases "Atlantic Ocean", "Pacific Ocean" or "Indian Ocean":
