Research supported at Lee Stocking Island is based on the premise that studying minimally impacted coral reefs is an ideal means to develop baseline conditions, as well as targets for restoration, for coral reefs in areas heavily impacted by anthropogenic factors such as the Florida Keys and elsewhere throughout the Caribbean. Purpose: The coral reef research program is centered on the long term study and understanding of shallow and deep coral reef ecosystems.
