Title: Apparent rapid fisheries escalation at a remote Caribbean island
Entry Type: Article.
Abstract: "Navassa Island is a small uninhabited island, approximately 60 km west of the south-west tip of Haiti (1824'N, 7500'W). Haiti laid claim to the island in 1804, however the USA claimed it under the Guano Act of 1856 and recently placed it under jurisdiction of the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Title: Coral Reef Status of Navassa Island 2004
Entry Type: Metadata Record.
Abstract: Benthic and habitat data collected on the 2004 cruise to Navassa Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Parameters include benthic cover, coral disease prevalence, location of fishing gear, coral density and sizes. Data were collected in situ by divers, some using digital cameras. Fishing gear locations were determined visually from boat transects.
